A Napoleon Dress Worth A Buy!

Kuri Style is one of my favorite Japanese stores. It has lots and lots and LOTS of cute, pretty outfits that are lovely in colours and very sweet in designs. I can spend hours (and lots of Lindens) in her store because every time I go there, it becomes a harsh battle within myself not to click on too many vendors.

BUT…..this was certainly a must buy!

The store currently has some items marked down to TWO Lindens. Yes only L$2! You can’t choose the colour, however, since only one of the colours available will be marked down. But what can you complain with this price?

This was one of such marked down mini dresses that I bought. This olive coloured dress (although the creator calls this brown) was one of the three colour variations that also included red and blue. But this one was the best in my personal opinion so I would have bought this colour even if it wasn’t marked down.

The design is rather classic and has rich gold embroidery that decorates a nice tailored design. It also comes with the lace inner shirt and the gray tights with a paisley print that I am wearing here. I loved the texture of this tights and I think this can also be a useful item that can be styled with many other outfits.

I know Clothing Fair has just started and many of you might be spending more than you should. LOL But all the more, a L$2 outfit that looks great will be something that can satisfy your retail craving without hurting your wallet.

Of course, that is, IF you can resist not buying all the other stuff. *grins*

How To Have Low ARC And Still Wear Fur

I had a REALLY busy December and hadn’t been able to blog as much I would have wanted to. But now that all the shows, events, commitments are finished and the holiday season Christmas frenzy is over, I am back to blogging again! Yaaay! 😀

This eventful month, however, have made me renew my awareness for keeping our looks low ARC (Avatar Rendering Cost) when going to events not just for the show participants but also for our own good as we all want lag to be kept as low as we all can. Of course, there is always the discussion about whether ARC is the sole factor responsible to keep lag low. No, it’s not. There is also the factor of scripts involved but that does not mean, we can go to shows and events with ARCs ranging in the reds. ARC also plays its part so let’s keep our ARC low!

My rule of thumb is under 1,000 ARC if possible. And if I want to be really fashionable and still in the ok range, I would say below 1,500 ARC. I’ll write how to see ARC numbers at the end for those you don’t know how to check but for now, let’s keep the discussion on the subject of how we can wear fur and still have relatively low ARC.

As most fashionistas are aware of, fur is known to be a no-no-item that shoots up your ARC numbers, sometimes in the range of 10,000 and over depending on what you wear. Recently, however, some clever creators are starting to create fur items that look gorgeous, glam and still keep to a low ARC number. So today, I would like to introduce one that does just that!

I have today, two fur bolero jackets that not only look warm and stylish for winter season parties or events, but are also very versatile. It comes in black and white and the design allows you to wear them with casual, semi-casual as well as formal outfits. And what’s even more wonderful is that they are only +1,088 ARC! This means, if you style smart, it is actually possible to keep your ARC numbers below 1,500 in total and still enjoy a look using fur! Now isn’t that a great news?

The fur boleros are from Gabriel, which is a store by a Japanese designer, Takuya Jinn. He is relatively new but has some great outfits that use sculpt prims in very clever ways and this fur bolero is certain one of his clever creations. Here, I have worn the black version with a skirt + down jacket set, replacing the down jacket with the bolero to give it a little less casual look. Then I used the white one to make a more smart casual or city casual look, which ever way you wish to call it. Both of these bolero jackets can easily be used in formal looks by wearing them over a formal gown so here I chose to show two casual looks, one a bit more semi-formal than the other.

The first look is casual and I took the skirt from a set that comes with a down vest with matching texture. The necklace I am wearing here comes included in the fur bolero jacket which is a nice piece to be worn alone too. The earrings I used here are from another Japanese designer, Emi Woller and her store called PISA. She includes a large and a small size in the set, so here I wore the smaller version. Again, without resize scripts, these earrings also contribute to keep lag low while we can choose whether we want to wear these bigger too if we wanted to.

Gabriel – Fur Bolero (black)

Fur Jacket: Gabriel, Fur Bolero (black)
Skit: Gabriel, Check Down Vest Suit (black) *used skirt only
Necklace: *Included in Fur Bolero (black)
Earrings: PISA, Banded Agate Earrings
Boots: Courtisane, Allumeuse Boots (olive)
Hair: Vixen Hair, Camillia (blackmail)
Skin: Dutch Touch, JoLie Cream, Eagle

The second look I made is a bit less casual. Some people might call this smart casual or city casual and it’s something I might wear to go to an art exhibition or a nice get together where I don’t want to be over-dressed but still be seen dress nicely. Here, I wore the shirt and underpants layers of a one-piece mini dress from ce cubic effect and used it as a shirt and replaced the necklace that’s part of the fur bolero set to something that looks a bit more formal.

The jewelry pieces you see here are from J and W jewelers which is a relatively new store that my fellow model Wenadrenia Soderstrom has started with her RL and SL hubby, Jens Marksman. This store is quickly gaining popularity with their bold but also elegant designs.

Gabriel – Fur Bolero (white)

Shoes: Baiastice, Querelle (brown)
Hair: Vixen Hair, Myth (bombshell dark)

And lastly, as I promised this is how you can see ARC numbers for those that do not know how. Go to your Advanced menu* on the top bar of your SL viewer and click through Rendering > Info Displays > Avatar Rending Cost and you will see numbers above avatars. If the numbers are in green, it means the number is low ARC. Mid range will be shown in orange and high range will be shown in red. So turn this info display on when changing to make sure you are within reasonable range before going to events!

*If you do not see an “Advanced” menu next to “Help”, then hit “ctrl + alt + D” and it will show up.

Looking For A Party Dress?

This is the fun time of the year when we have lots of parties coming up till the end of the year and also a time when we have to watch our weights! (Yikes!) Some parties will be formal so you might be looking for a gorgeous gown and some will be less formal. But no matter what the dress code is, it’s nice to be dressed to impress.

As most of you know, SL has LOTs of gowns and we can find lovely gowns quite easily. But what about cocktail dresses or dresses that will make you look fab when dancing?

Samahi Couture is a store you might want to check out. It has so many styles that you’ll have a hard time choosing what you want to buy and so much variety in both bright, striking colours as well as chic colours like black and gray.

What’s stunning is the array of glitter dresses you can find. Samahi Couture is not all about glitter but it’s certainly a store you want to check out for that party glitter! Here I am introducing two outfits I liked. Yes, you guessed right! I couldn’t make up my mind and ended up getting two myself! 😛

The first one is called Ka’tching Dress. It’s a lovely pink glitter dress that comes with an asymmetrical cocktail length skirt as well as a full ballroom gown skirt so you can pick the skirt depending on how you want to style it. I am sure gown skirt will make you stand out with all its glitter in a formal scene but I particularly liked the shorter skirt. I think this will look lovely with dance movements which is a must for fun parties.

The second dress is a chic and yet gorgeous mini dress called Silver Snake Dress. It is basically a white and transparent mini dress with snake like patterns made with silver glitter. This dress is very stylish, sexy and can be styled in so many ways. I love dresses that give me flexibility to style. 😀

Samahi Couture – Silver Snake Dress

Here, I styled it with a blue jewelry set from By Alexander. The solid bright blue of these jewelry pieces were perfect to make a sleek, fashionable look while being also playful and sexy.

Lots of Wonderful New Releases From Paper Couture

Paper Couture has released lots of attractive releases which includes outfits, hair and accessories that all have a very “Paper Couture” look. Lots of frills, lots of flowers, sweet designs, soft and simply lovely colours, which are all very attractive for that sophisticated and feminine look.

I had so much fun shopping and decided to show three outfits today instead of writing lots of text as I believe you can get the feel of the collection from lots of pics.

The first one is “Jasmine Vest” a very sweet casual look that consists of a shirt, vest and short pants.

I may add that these are only a few of a much larger collection, which are all as attractive as those shown here. It’s certainly worth a shopping trip but make sure you bring lots of lindens with you as I am sure you will need them!

A Brand New Designer On The Grid

“Fashion Nomad” is a new brand by a new designer Aleida Rhode. She opened her store only about three weeks ago and is already churning out new releases very energetically. Aleida had been one of the top models in SL and I had known her through modeling jobs as well as runway projects at Ewing Fashion Agency where we both work as a staff member and model. Through her modeling career, Aleida has seen many fashion brands as well as outfits and I am looking forward to see what she will add to the SL world of fashion.

Here is one of her new releases, Balinya Dress in rose dust. A very subdued soft pink dress that is very elegant and good for any semi-formal party. I matched it with a burgundy coloured pair of shoes and a matching rose hair accessory. I also tried white shoes, as well as similar coloured shoes but the entire image looked “sleepy” when I used soft colours only and it seemed to work best when I added stronger colours at my feel level and at the top as a hair ornament to sharpen up the entire look. I must say, however, pure white also worked too but it was a bit too predictable so I decided to show the stronger coloured match in my pics.

Although this particular dress I have shown is soft coloured, Aleida also has lots of bright coloured shirts, tank top as well as jackets. Even dresses too. To show one of such examples, I picked this shirt top which is a pretty fuscia coloured top with a see-through lower part of the bodice and puff sleeves.

Here I made a fun spring look using various accessory items. I could have made a sweet look with a pink shirt that has puff sleeves but I tend to like going against the expected so it was more like an experiment which was also a lot of fun.

Pants: Devilish Cupcake, Gidget Pedal Pushers Glitch Pants (houndstooth)

Modern Gypsy – A Tiny Mini Dress

The other day, I blogged about a gorgeous white gown by Modern Gypsy in the Runway Magazine blogsite. I had obtained another outfit from the same store at the time I got the gown which was a totally different style. It is a tiny mini dress that is so fun to style and one I believe can be styled in so many ways. It comes with a wide black belt with a big silver buckle that adds a nice accent to this otherwise simple mini dress.

Today, I added a pair of black leggings from FTV. This leggings set comes with a long version that extends down to the ankle and also a short version that only comes down to below knee length. I used the short version because I wanted to style it with a pair of ankle boots. I love, love, love ankle boots more so than long boots as I think in many cases, it adds more fun to looks. I cannot deny that another reason I like ankle boots is because there are so many people wearing long boots and I always like to be a “bit different.”

The main focus of styling today was the lovely vivid blue colour of this dress. In order to emphasize the blue, I decided to use only black and white for all other items. So I matched up one of my favorite jewelry set from Alienbear Designs. I have been using this quite often but it is a really nice “white” set for the winter season. I would most likely use less of this once spring is here so I might as well use it while I can.

To complete the look, I used this interesting hair from Discord. Again something to add more fun without going “too casual.”

A Silver Mini Dress From WigWamBam

WigWamBam was a store I accidentally found last year when it was still just opened. It’s not a big store, but full of fun outfits that I would enjoy styling. Yesterday, I visited the store again after some interval and found this silver mini dress that I simply loved. It came in two versions. One with short sleeves and the other with long sleeves. My choice was to go with the long one.

It is one of those simple mini dresses that you see quite often in SL but what sets it apart is the puffy shoulders at the top of the long sleeves that adds a classy image to the dress and the bold but interesting cut in the front. I can see why designer Joodle Fadoodle wanted a cut instead of an open collar. The high collar that is made possible by having a cut here matches so well with the puffy sleeves, giving the dress a different look as well as adding style. It looks very classy and elegant just by having these two details. This is what I love about designs. A small difference can make such a difference!

So instead of a simple silver or black & white look, I decided to add some red. I did that using jewelries from Chloe which, with its 150+ colour change feature, allowed me to choose the exact red I was looking for. Also I wore a fine mesh fishnet stockings in red. This pair of stockings was great as it gives you a choice of large, medium and fine mesh using different clothing layers. Then you can simply go into appearance and choose whatever colour you wish by editing colour. This practically means there is no limit to the colours you can make.

To complete the look, I wore dark red nail polish and makeup that gave me bright red lips from Pulse Skins.

For shoes, however, I decided to go with black & white, wearing a pair of ankle boots that was released from Courtisane, a new shoes brand launched by LeeZu Baxter. These boots come in so many different colours that it’s worth checking them up if you are looking for any specific colour to add to your look. And for hair, I chose a relatively voluminous hair from Tsukinowaguma which comes with a rather elaborate colour changing hair ornament. I changed the colour of the ornament to “silver white” to match the mini dress. I could have used red shoes and red hair ornaments but it seemed a bit “too much.” This way, I can bring the focus to my red lips and also the big red necklace I am wearing, from Chloe.

I am now ready to head off to a fun casino night in Las Vegas and maybe some dancing later.
