From The Wedding Expo

I was one of the models for a wedding fashion show in the “2009 *Something Blue*…Love & Marriage Expo” which was a wedding expo that was running from July 31 through August 8.

One of the outfits I modeled for was Sparkle Skye’s “Fairy Tale” in white/gold.

As always, Sparkle’s wedding gowns are so lovely and gorgeous. A killer sized skirt is included for grand weddings like those in cathedrals, but smaller skirts are also included so that the gowns can be worn after the wedding. “Fairy Tale” also comes in a all white colour but those who want a gown that is a little different, this white/gold version will be a great choice.

Here, I am not wearing the sparkles she has to take pics but sparkles are also included in the set which will add that sparkly touch to the skirt.

For jewelry, I used the Gradient Set from Flirt. I used these for the show also but what is so fantastic about these jewelry is that the sets are so well thought for the convenience of customers. The necklaces have chest attached versions as well as spine attached versions so it the attachment point conflicts with something you need to attach with your outfit, you can chose the one with a non-conflicting attachment point.

All jewelry pieces are copyable too when most jewelry stores sell their items no copy and transferable. OK I do admit that sometimes jewelry are given to others as gifts. I have always wondered, however, what percentage of jewelry are actually sold as gifts. Maybe it’s just me but I hardly get jewelry given to me and most of what I have are purchased for personal use. Then, copyable versions are so much better! I will even go so far as to say, I prefer stores that sell copyable jewelry. Kudos to Skinkie Winkler for this wise choice!!

A Gown Called "Fierce"

Journey McLaglen, the designer for Prism Haute Couture, has just released a new gown called “Fierce.” Unlike the image you get from this name, the gown is nothing but stunning, amazing, eye-catching AND one of the most elegant gowns I have seen.

Prism Haute Couture – Fierce

Yes it is “fierce” in that the texture pattern is of a zebra and panther, all in black and white. The zebra pattern is used on the left of the entire gown while the panther is used on the right and the two mesh with each other in the center in what is like a zigzag form. Then gown itself has a very simple silhouette with the hem of the skirt being longer on one side.

This is a gown that looks awesome standing still as well as with movement as you see the soft flexi prims of the skirt bounce and twirl as you move. Since I have worn this, I have had two people IM me about the gown in just an hour, which does not happen that often, and also had a photographer comment how gorgeous the gown was.

I can simply say, you get noticed in this gown!

I used this hair from a Japanese hair designer, ADKing Aeon of ‘Glitter’, called Lala. This was one updo that was similarly both fierce as well as elegant that matched the image of this gown so perfectly. I just could not see myself wearing a regular updo as the gown had so much impact that any regular updo will just be too boring.

On the other hand, I didn’t wear much jewelry with this as both the whole texture and the zigzag pattern in the front and back had enough impact that adding anything more to this would be an insult to this great design. So I simply added some drop type pearl earrings and that was enough.

Black and white outfits usually can look quite stunning when a little bit of ‘red’ is added. So here I wore a new Candace Skin with deep red lips from Genesis and also a pair of black high heels from Digit Darkes that has bright red soles. This is quite effective as you can see glimpse of red through the skirt as you walk. A subtle but elegant way of adding red without spoiling the design. Needless to say, nails should be red too.

A Lovely Purple Gown From My Precious

My Precious, where Agnes Finney is the owner and designer, has always been in my mind as a store that had a lot of pink and red. But the store is apparently changing! She now has her own sim that houses a huge store as well as an event space and a separate area for bridal needs. The moment you step in, you can see so many other colours besides the red and the pinks that she had always been known for.

I found this purple gown there which was one of such gowns.

My Precious – Vera Amethyst

It is an elegant silky gown with lace texture around the hem of a ballroom skirt as well as gloves and comes with a ribbon tied at the back. The top is a halter type top which leaves the back all bare.

Maybe it’s coming from my childhood days when I dreamt of being a princess as I watched videos of Snow White and Cinderella, but a ribbon at the back is something that makes me smile for no particular reason. For me, it was something that ALL princess gowns had to have in my fantasies.

Since the colour of the gown is quite strong, I didn’t want to use gems or colours for jewelry so I matched some pearl jewelry I had from a Japanese store called PISA. It is a jewelry store that specializes in classic Italian jewelry designs and the prim work by its creator, Emi Woller, is absolutely amazing. The jewelry I got here are great to add that bit of classic elegance to any outfit so I thought it would be perfect to use them with this gown. Now I can enjoy the lovely impact this purple has and also add some classic elegance to balance it out.

The hair is one I have used before. “Kay ver2” from R’s Hair Style, which goes really well with big ballroom gowns especially.

A Sweet Flower Dress: New Release From "a la folie"

“A la folie” had always been one of my favorite brands. It’s a store I turn to when ever I want a pretty dress and feel girly. pixivor Allen, designer of “a la folie,” has just released a lovely dress called ‘Rose Tull.’ She has three colour variations in her store nad they all have both prim and printed flowers….and lots of them. The gown itself is a very feminine design too as all of her other outfits. Being a RL artist who loves to paint flowers a lot, pixivor definitely knows how to create great looking prim flowers as well as draw flowers very well.

a la folie – Rose Tull

The tiny sleeves that sit on the upper arms, the bare shoulders, belts and necklaces that are made of flower stems, the soft tulle used for the skirt, the silky top all help to make this gown a very sweet and lovely outfit. ‘Rose Tull’ comes with the necklace, earrings and bracelet as well as the belt you see in the pics. But that’s not all. It also comes with shoes to match the dress which is not purple but pale yellow. In fact, I was a bit surprised as I was expecting to see a similar coloured pair of shoes as the dress but once you wore the yellow shoes, it matched with the overall flowery image of the gown.

I matched it with a hair from Adored Clothing and Hair, which is a store that sells both outfits and hair as the name suggests. This one I am wearing is a very loose up do that has flowers in the back of the up do. You select the colour of the flower you with to wear and then click on the hair to change the hair colour.

As you can see from the pic above, I think pixivor makes one of the best flowers in SL which can only come from her love of flowers in RL.

Introducing An Incredible New Designer

Kariwanz Felisimo had only had her store opened for 2 weeks when I found her store in an amazing sim created by a Japanese lady, Sweetlemon Jewell, called Omega Point. My jaws had already dropped the moment I arrived to this ‘open sim’. Yes, it was an OPEN sim which means she only had 3750 prims to work with and she had created a world of Final Fantasy!

Then my jaws dropped further when I entered KWZ. A brand new store that had just opened and yet the quality of the vendor posters, the displays and the outfits that were sold were simply…..O….M….G!

KWZ – Anje Cherry in Omega Point

At that time (about 2 months ago), I introduced her to Modavia and the she was immediately sought as a new designer that must be introduced in the Modavia Fashion Directory. After Modavia, she was featured in the last issue of RUNWAY Magazine too (April 09 issue) right before it had its unfortunate closing.

But what more can I say? I have no words that can describe the surprise this new designer gave me with the quality of her design and work.

Anje Cherry is one of her latest releases. The amazingly detailed texture Kariwanz is so good at, is used here also and the colour of the gown which is neither pink nor orange nor brick nor peach….a very sensitive peach-ish colour that also caught my eye.

I cannot even describe this but all I can say is…..you have GOT to come visit Omega Point sim and KWZ even just to see what amazing work these two Japanese ladies have done with an open sim and dress creations.

Here, I used the Noir line of Lion Skins, which is actually SU based but made to look a little goth like. I like using this skin when I want a bit of mysterious feel in the look but not completely goth. I would even call this ‘fashion goth’ separating it from the goth skins that are in the market.

Pink For The Sakura Season

The Sakura, or cherry blossom, season is almost over where I live but you can still see cherry trees that have nothing but pale pink delicate flowers that create baby pink trees that simply look devine if you travel north. These flowers are so lovely but short lived and a full pink tree can only be enjoyed for about a week or even shorter if it rains. People in Japan endure the long cold winter awaiting for this god sent sign of spring and try to savour the short period of sakura flowers as much as they can by having parties and picnics under the pink trees while it lasts.

I wanted to wear something pink which is the colour of sakura flowers and found just the right one in one of the gown collections from Sascha’s Designs.

Sascha’s Designs – Marce Pink (cocktail dress)

‘Marce’ in pink was the name of this lovely gown which not only has long ballroom gown skirts, but it also comes with a cocktail skirt, sleek flexi skirt, fluffy flexi skirt and a battleship gown skirt to allow a flexible look depending on where and when you wear the outfit.

Here I matched it with ‘Sakura’ from si*na Jewelry. The creator of this most lovely piece of jewelry, sinamon Loon created, a set of necklace and earrings that are made only with sakura flowers. I had already shown this once in my blog but this was so perfect especially at this time of the year.

I also wore a skin from Lion Skins that had pink makeup to match the whole pink look.

A Cool Gown Released From Sascha’s Designs

Sascha’s Designs is a store that sells mainly formal gowns that have a very feminine taste. Well, at least, that was the image. But Sascha is changing!

She released a gown with a slightly different image recently called Roxanna and now she even released some casual wear! I will show the casual outfit in another blog post and today I have “Roxanna” which is a cool black gown with a thick leather belt around the waist and a sheer scarf that drapes down the back from both shoulders.

The prim skirt also uses a unique texture that looks almost like feathers that fall straight down from the waist.

A simple but cool gown like this is something I find most interesting to style as there is room to play around with accessories. For example, although I wore the gown in the style that it came with, I can replace the scarf with another scarf that I might have to add a point colour, or even replace it with a rather voluminous necklace in which case, I might wear a similar bracelet over the gloves.

But today, I kept the original style and instead, matched it with an interesting hat from Chapeau Tres Mignon that looks like a net ball hat that covers the entire front of the head and face. It looks like I have a net over my face, which is a classic and elegant favorite without making the entire ‘look’ look too classic.

To keep the relatively simple and lean look of the gown, I wore simple pumps but one with a good quality look from Styles of edo.

Phoenix Resurrection by Phoenix Rising

When I first wore Phoenix Resurrection, I immediately knew why the designer named it so. It depicts a phoenix rising from the ashes.

It comes with a feathered crown, which, of course you don’t have to wear if you cannot find a hair that matches, and also luxurious feathers that cover the back of the gown skirt. If you don’t like the feathers, you are given a choice of a more plain skirt without the ornament.

What is so impressive with this gown is the top part. The upper area is full of glitter but in very elegant colours and as you go down, the top becomes very sheer as if it was using the finest of threads for the material. As you know exposing your skin, even with avatars, can sacrifice elegance in outfits making it look less classy. But this is a great way to show that little bit of skin without losing this. I have, of course, seen other outfits that use see through material but I have never seen one so sheer as if it blends into the skin.

The gown looks very slim when viewed from the front but once you see the side or back view, you notice how the gown flows away from your body and looking as if it was trailing behind.

I used a Gabrielle Gem Set in Antique White Pearls from Virtual Impressions. This is a jewelry store that makes such realistic pearls! In fact, when edo Tone wanted antique pearls to sell in his store, Chrissy Ambrose, the creator and designer for Virtual Impressions was who he turned to. So the design may be different but the pearl pieces are the same pearls that edo has in the Style of edo pearl jewelry, which I still think are the best on the grid.

The design that Chrissy came up with, however, is a little more decorative and she has a collection of antique pearls, white pearls, pink pearls and black pearls with the same design. As her prices are always very reasonable and affordable, it would be a great addition to have all four variations, as they look so good with gowns.

Eshi Otawara’s Art Of Clothing

Eshi Otawara has become well known for her ‘art’ which is probably a more appropriate term to call her creations than ‘outfits.’ Her most recent release is one call ‘POPI’ which takes its theme from poppy flowers.

The garment is basically white with poppy flowers forming a design as well as a pattern on the bodice area of the outfit and also a very big hat that comes with the outfit. The hat is a huge poppy flower itself with over-sized hat pins added as accents.

The outfit also comes with a choker that is shown here and also a ring that is a bumble bee which I thought was so cute. So when the avatar moves the hand, it looks like a bumble bee is flying around a field of poppy flowers.

There is really very little you can add to this without distorting its balance. Here I wore a relatively plain pair of white shoes and also a hair that was a tight updo so as not to take away from this lovely hat.

Eshi Otawara – POPI by Eshi Otawara

This was an outfit that I had a lot of fun taking pictures as the outfit itself was almost like a sculpture. So I added a few fun shots I took also.

Gorgeous Gowns by Sascha’s Designs

Sascha’s Designs is one store you don’t want to miss if you are looking for gorgeous gowns. Sascha’s Designs has so many gorgeous gowns, it’s almost hard to make a decision which one you want. But the good news is that the gowns here are very reasonally priced. For the quality of gowns you get, I must say, the prices are very good and fair.

Afterall, in RL, there are rare materials you can use, silk, gems, gold, all the things that can justify expensive prices. But in SL, they are just textures. You can have a diamond texture and say it’s diamond. So what is a high priced gown priced after?

Sascha Frangilli is one designer who is very aware of this and she maintains that her customers must be charged fair prices for outfits. And for this reason, she continues to offer fabulous gowns at fair prices.

There are so many that I want to show but today, I am showing a gown called “Cou Cou Gold” which is a gorgeous gown with a gold glitter and black velvet like material. It comes in a full ballroom gown skirt as well as a knee length cocktail dress and also a mini skirt, allowing you to wear this for any occasion where you need to dress up. You also get two pairs of gloves in this set. One gold and one black. So you will be able to have a lot of fun styling.
