A Gorgeous Mermaid Dress for Haiti

A store owned by Japanese designer, Likka Noel, called Likka House is participating in a charity supporting Haiti with a gorgeous gown. This gown is called “The Name Of The Rose” gown that comes in a whopping 10 colour variation. The beige gown is offered for L$50 with all sales going to the Haiti charity. All other colours are offered for L$300, which is still a big bargain price!

This is a beautiful and romantic gown with lots and lots of sculpt roses that are attached even to places like your hand. So by the time you wear all the roses, you look as if you are covered with rose flowers. What surprises me is that Likka manages to arrange all these roses in such a way that it never looks distasteful.

The gown is being sold in her main store in Sannomiya, Japan but also in her branch store in the ROMAN sim, which is a sim that reproduces Japan during the Taisho period which was a short era under the reigns of the Taisho Emperor dating from July 30, 1912 to December 25, 1926. This was a very short period considered as the time of the liberal movement known as the “Taisho Democracy” which is usually distinguished from the preceding chaotic “Meiji” period under Meiji Emperor and the militarism-driven first half of the “Showa” period of Showa Emperor. It was a very short period but had distinguished culture, fashion and style and many Japanese still look at that period as a very peaceful and romantic time in the history of Japan.

ROMAN sim is such a well made sim that not only Japanese SL residents but many non-Japanese residents become repeat visitors. So it might be worth paying a visit to Likka House in the ROMAN sim and enjoy the tour of the sim after you have finished with your shopping.

DIRAM – Have I Been Blind???

All this came to me when Frolic Mills sent me an IM that started with the usual “KAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY” (note: In real, the Y part is much longer, often extending to several lines). I often wonder if the Y key on his keyboard is worn by now. This several lines of IM which really only consisted of the word “KAY” continued with another line that read “DIRAM wants to do a show with us in January.”

OK. DIRAM……is that a new brand? I must confess, I almost call myself the walking LM dictionary of SL Fashion. It had always fascinated me to find new and undiscovered brands that have great potential to become big and to dig them out and place them under the spot light, so to speak. So I knew most of the brands…..well, MOST, that is. And this was one that had not yet come across my radar.

Feeling a bit hurt and ashamed, I immediately decided to find the store and teleport. I landed right outside of a store that had lots of fun and colourful outfits as well as some accessory items which included shoes and some separately sold clothing items. Designer, djod Karu had a fine selection of mostly casual and fun, sexy clothes. Yes, they were nice but not something that blew me away. Lots of mini and micro skirts, belly-exposing outfits, stockings with garters…….the types of clothes I see quite often in SL.

OK, so casual and sexy.

That was my conclusion and I left it until it was time to start preparing for this show. This whole expectation was literally blown away when djod sent me some sneak preview pics of her new collection, which she named, SCANDALOUS.

I must say, she totally threw me off in a way I had never experienced in my whole SL life. All I could say was “omg omg omg omg omg” as I tried to stop drooling over the pics that she sent me. This was back in December and it was LONG and patient wait till I was allowed to show or talk about this collection.

DIRAM – Lady Gaga Dirty Rich Red

Now djod has finished her launch show with Boulevard Agency, has done a new collection launch party with Avenue when the new collection were finally released on January 30, and now she has more shows scheduled with Evane and then with BeStyle Model Agencies. So it’s about time I talk about it.

This whole collection was inspired by Lady Gaga and Britney Spears and what they actually wore in real life. The collection can be best described as being fun, provocative, sexy, casual but also achieves all this at a very high level of fashion and quality. I cannot think of any brand that even resembles the SCANDALOUS collection. It is unique both in style as well as quality of the outfits. All of the items are also outfits that will become a great source for mixing and matching or matching with other fun items that you can find on the grid which allows you to create your own fun style.

I admit. I am now totally hooked! I have so many of her new designs in my inventory now that it took a while to decide which one I wanted to show but I decided to go with the Lady Gaga Dirty Rich Red, which is apparently djod’s favorite piece too. It also represents her vision of quality and high fashion while also being fun, sexy and provocative.

I matched this up with a Lady Gaga style sunglasses that I had found some time ago and also this really fun pair of tights I had in my inventory from FAB PONY. I also tried on various pairs of boots and pumps but settled for this thigh high boots, also from DIRAM as it matched in not only in its style but also in the exact shade of red that I wanted. Aah and one more note about the sunglasses which I found at Vintage Wear Outlet. There were many colour variations of gems used either on white base, as seen here, or black base. To copy Lady Gaga, it might be more appropriate to use the black base type but since I use black hair, I thought this might blend in with my hair. So for my own styling purposes, I chose to buy the white based ones.

If you decide to go take a peep in the store, note that her SCANDALOUS collection will be found in a separate building right across from her regular main store. So don’t fret if you cannot find it in her regular store. Just step out and go across to the other building where you will most likely experience the same kind of excitement I experienced when I first saw the pictures back in December.

Enjoy!

New Skin Launch – Fairey Skins

OMG I meant to report about this about a week ago!! I had all pics taken and ready to go when…….I got tied up with a LOT of things I had to do or follow up.

So here is the report a week later. :S

Aradhana Voight of Mashooka Designs has launched her first skins!! She has two skin lines in store now and one of them is called “Fairey Skin.” Yup….Fairey from my name, Kay Fairey. 😀 This is the first skin I had in my name and I feel so honoured that she named it after me.

Without any positive bias coming from the name, I really liked this skin! I had been looking for skins that don’t have the thick Audrey Hepburn type eye brows. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve been noticing a lot of skins with this type of eye brows and being an SL model, I try to stay away from the “majority” look. So finding the right eye brow was important for me. This skin had just that. It comes with brow shapes you can wear to change the height of the brows.

It also has a very natural complexion that doesn’t make you look like a over-photo shopped picture where the skin is unnaturally smooth. I had already used this skin in my previous post about “A Versatile Casual And Party Dress” so you can see what it looks like actually used.

There has been a rush of new skin launches lately but this one is certainly worth checking out!

A Versatile Casual And Party Dress

I am sure there has been many blog posts about the recent releases from Paper Couture. So instead of a simple post, I decided to have some fun and style an outfit as a casual look and also as a party dress.

Parakeet is a lovely bright yellow dress that conveniently has shirt layers and also skirt layers with and without ornaments. So for a casual look, I wore the plain layers and also removed the feathers that attach to the shoulders. Ah I almost forgot but I took off the stockings that came with the outfit too. Now this outfit became a very simple yet sweet yellow mini dress.

I wore this with a knit cap that is from 69 that comes with the hair. I love these because I don’t have to worry about editing the hair or the cap to fit it. The cap is colour change so one click and you can get it in different colours. I also wore a long wool scarf from Argrace and cute pair of over-knee socks from Honey Kitty which is a Japanese store that has a very wide selection of “kawaii (cute)” outfits. But the variety of socks that you find here is amazing!

Another item worth mentioning is this casual boots that I wore with this look. This is Snow Drift from Kalnins Footwear that not only does it look so real, it also has a HUD you can wear and change colours of the main boot, ribbon and piping parts to 12 different colours! In other words, you can create your own colour combination which allows for some fun styling.

Paper Couture – Parakeet (casual look)

And this is a close up of the boots I’m wearing here. I’m just loving this! AND……this boots is being sold at 50% discount if you go today. I think it’s still discounted for one more day from 800L to 400L. So if you like it, run run!

Kalnins Footwear – Snow Drift

Next I wore the shirt and skirt layers with ornaments, added the feather prims to the shoulders and also wore the stockings in the set. The shoes I wore here are from Nardcotix and I just love the round toes. There are so many colour variations too as well as one without the T-strap.

The Miss Virtual Gown From LeeZu! – Aimee Gown

I have to admit, it took me some time to get this post up since I got the gown, so this is a new release that was released a few days ago. It was released on January 3 to be more accurate. But I am sure it’s still a lovely gown that is worth a mention.

The Aimee Gown from LeeZu! was originally designed as a gown for Miss UK to wear during the Miss Virtual World final stage that took place on December 19th last year. (wow just saying last year makes it sound like it was a LONG time ago!)

England is known for the lovely gardens that people take a lot of care to maintain throughout the country. You will notice that whether large or small, the gardens are always kept well groomed with lots of sweet flowers. This gown reminds me of just that. Dainty flowers adorn this gown with delicate and subtle colours that match the delicate line of the outfit.

The Aimee gown comes in three difference colour options; champagne, graybrown and black. The skirt is made of a combination of sculpties and flexi prims that allows for a very natural movement and also with a resize script that gives the possibility to resize a single prim as well as the whole skirt.

The gown comes with a matching hat that compliments the gown with more flowers and ruffles creating a very nice balance with the volume of the gown.

The champagne coloured gown is probably the main colour here which is a lovely romantic colour that is not white but more of a very light off-white colour tone giving the whole gown a very warm image. Personally, I also fell in love with graybrown which is a smokey pale brown with flowers in off-white and very pale green. The combination of these three colours is absolutely impressive and chic while boasting a delicate elegance that no other colour can match.

1. LeeZu! – Aimee Gown (champagne)

The jewelry I wore for the champagne gown is from Mandala, where kikunosuke Eel, a Japanese photographer, has his very creative and lovely jewelry creations. The jewelry sets are usually voluptuous, comes in many colour variations and many of them have resize scripts. He also offeres ones with glow or no glow in the same set, which I am sure comes from his experience as an SL photographer.

The jewelry set I am wearing with the graybrown gown is from Gems & Kisses, where Italian jewelry designer Deliziosa Vendetta also creates and sells very unique and creative jewelry but in a totally different style from kikunosuke. Both of these stores have jewelry that have a lot of impact and look very unique while at the same time adding so much to compliment the outfits.

Fellini Couture: The SL Dream Brand of Dresses

Joy Fellini has long been known as great photographer and she has, recently, branched out to designing couture outfits under her own brand, Fellini Couture.

The moment you step into her store, you will be submerged into Joy’s world of dreamy outfits. The dreamy colours she uses and the feminine yet strong and distinctive designs are the unique features of her designs and what makes her outfits so intriguing. Her designs also use a lot of sculpt parts that are used effectively to form a part of the outfit rather than simple attachments.

The gown I am wearing here is called Litchi Gown. To me, it looked like it had an oriental touch to the design, which is not from oriental cultures such as Japan or China, but rather something from more subtropical countries such as Thailand.

I congratulate Joy on her beautiful creations that forever will enrich our SL fashion lives.

Here, I matched it with a very pretty pink pendant from Virtual Impressions called the “Pink Abalone Shell and Silver Necklace” by Chrissy Ambrose and used a lovely skin with a very couture looking makeup from Dutch Touch by Iki Ikarus.

This will be my last post in 2009. I wish to take this opportunity to wish everybody a very happy new year! Where I live, 2009 will end in exactly half an hour from now…..and as I end this year, I cannot but wish that the new year will bring us all together more strongly, in spite of our national/cultural/personal differences. I wish that we can always remember to embrace forgiveness and patience. If we can’t even achieve this at individual levels, how can there ever be world peace?

Giving thoughts to these matters and wishing you all a very happy new year, I end this year. Thank you for your support throughout 2009!

How To Have Low ARC And Still Wear Fur

I had a REALLY busy December and hadn’t been able to blog as much I would have wanted to. But now that all the shows, events, commitments are finished and the holiday season Christmas frenzy is over, I am back to blogging again! Yaaay! 😀

This eventful month, however, have made me renew my awareness for keeping our looks low ARC (Avatar Rendering Cost) when going to events not just for the show participants but also for our own good as we all want lag to be kept as low as we all can. Of course, there is always the discussion about whether ARC is the sole factor responsible to keep lag low. No, it’s not. There is also the factor of scripts involved but that does not mean, we can go to shows and events with ARCs ranging in the reds. ARC also plays its part so let’s keep our ARC low!

My rule of thumb is under 1,000 ARC if possible. And if I want to be really fashionable and still in the ok range, I would say below 1,500 ARC. I’ll write how to see ARC numbers at the end for those you don’t know how to check but for now, let’s keep the discussion on the subject of how we can wear fur and still have relatively low ARC.

As most fashionistas are aware of, fur is known to be a no-no-item that shoots up your ARC numbers, sometimes in the range of 10,000 and over depending on what you wear. Recently, however, some clever creators are starting to create fur items that look gorgeous, glam and still keep to a low ARC number. So today, I would like to introduce one that does just that!

I have today, two fur bolero jackets that not only look warm and stylish for winter season parties or events, but are also very versatile. It comes in black and white and the design allows you to wear them with casual, semi-casual as well as formal outfits. And what’s even more wonderful is that they are only +1,088 ARC! This means, if you style smart, it is actually possible to keep your ARC numbers below 1,500 in total and still enjoy a look using fur! Now isn’t that a great news?

The fur boleros are from Gabriel, which is a store by a Japanese designer, Takuya Jinn. He is relatively new but has some great outfits that use sculpt prims in very clever ways and this fur bolero is certain one of his clever creations. Here, I have worn the black version with a skirt + down jacket set, replacing the down jacket with the bolero to give it a little less casual look. Then I used the white one to make a more smart casual or city casual look, which ever way you wish to call it. Both of these bolero jackets can easily be used in formal looks by wearing them over a formal gown so here I chose to show two casual looks, one a bit more semi-formal than the other.

The first look is casual and I took the skirt from a set that comes with a down vest with matching texture. The necklace I am wearing here comes included in the fur bolero jacket which is a nice piece to be worn alone too. The earrings I used here are from another Japanese designer, Emi Woller and her store called PISA. She includes a large and a small size in the set, so here I wore the smaller version. Again, without resize scripts, these earrings also contribute to keep lag low while we can choose whether we want to wear these bigger too if we wanted to.

Gabriel – Fur Bolero (black)

Fur Jacket: Gabriel, Fur Bolero (black)
Skit: Gabriel, Check Down Vest Suit (black) *used skirt only
Necklace: *Included in Fur Bolero (black)
Earrings: PISA, Banded Agate Earrings
Boots: Courtisane, Allumeuse Boots (olive)
Hair: Vixen Hair, Camillia (blackmail)
Skin: Dutch Touch, JoLie Cream, Eagle

The second look I made is a bit less casual. Some people might call this smart casual or city casual and it’s something I might wear to go to an art exhibition or a nice get together where I don’t want to be over-dressed but still be seen dress nicely. Here, I wore the shirt and underpants layers of a one-piece mini dress from ce cubic effect and used it as a shirt and replaced the necklace that’s part of the fur bolero set to something that looks a bit more formal.

The jewelry pieces you see here are from J and W jewelers which is a relatively new store that my fellow model Wenadrenia Soderstrom has started with her RL and SL hubby, Jens Marksman. This store is quickly gaining popularity with their bold but also elegant designs.

Gabriel – Fur Bolero (white)

Fur Jacket: Gabriel, Fur Bolero (white)
Shirt: ce cubic effect, Wrap Tank Mini Dress (cocoa beige) *used only shirt and underpants layer
Pants: ce cubic effect, Flare Trousers pants (off white)
Jewelry: J and W Jewelers, Michele’s Whisper
Shoes: Baiastice, Querelle (brown)
Hair: Vixen Hair, Myth (bombshell dark)
Skin: Dutch Touch, JoLie Cream, Autumn

And lastly, as I promised this is how you can see ARC numbers for those that do not know how. Go to your Advanced menu* on the top bar of your SL viewer and click through Rendering > Info Displays > Avatar Rending Cost and you will see numbers above avatars. If the numbers are in green, it means the number is low ARC. Mid range will be shown in orange and high range will be shown in red. So turn this info display on when changing to make sure you are within reasonable range before going to events!

*If you do not see an “Advanced” menu next to “Help”, then hit “ctrl + alt + D” and it will show up.

Looking For A Party Dress?

This is the fun time of the year when we have lots of parties coming up till the end of the year and also a time when we have to watch our weights! (Yikes!) Some parties will be formal so you might be looking for a gorgeous gown and some will be less formal. But no matter what the dress code is, it’s nice to be dressed to impress.

As most of you know, SL has LOTs of gowns and we can find lovely gowns quite easily. But what about cocktail dresses or dresses that will make you look fab when dancing?

Samahi Couture is a store you might want to check out. It has so many styles that you’ll have a hard time choosing what you want to buy and so much variety in both bright, striking colours as well as chic colours like black and gray.

What’s stunning is the array of glitter dresses you can find. Samahi Couture is not all about glitter but it’s certainly a store you want to check out for that party glitter! Here I am introducing two outfits I liked. Yes, you guessed right! I couldn’t make up my mind and ended up getting two myself! 😛

The first one is called Ka’tching Dress. It’s a lovely pink glitter dress that comes with an asymmetrical cocktail length skirt as well as a full ballroom gown skirt so you can pick the skirt depending on how you want to style it. I am sure gown skirt will make you stand out with all its glitter in a formal scene but I particularly liked the shorter skirt. I think this will look lovely with dance movements which is a must for fun parties.

Samahi Couture – Ka’tching Dress

The second dress is a chic and yet gorgeous mini dress called Silver Snake Dress. It is basically a white and transparent mini dress with snake like patterns made with silver glitter. This dress is very stylish, sexy and can be styled in so many ways. I love dresses that give me flexibility to style. 😀

Samahi Couture – Silver Snake Dress

Here, I styled it with a blue jewelry set from By Alexander. The solid bright blue of these jewelry pieces were perfect to make a sleek, fashionable look while being also playful and sexy.
